Seeking people from our community to join our diverse dedicated and passionate team of volunteers

Mt Eliza Fire Brigade is a 100% volunteer CFA Brigade and we have been providing is vital service to the community for over 80 years.  We are always seeking new members interested to join us in this rewarding role.

We have positions available for both firefighting / emergency response and support roles as well as our junior member program.

Firefighter Volunteer

In a firefighting role you will may attend:

  • Bushfires and structural fires
  • Fuel reduction burns
  • Road accident rescues
  • Incidents involving hazardous materials
  • Other emergencies including flood assistance
  • Other types of rescue

As a volunteer you will receive nationally recognised and accredited training courses that can be beneficial in both personal and employment environments.  Training includes:

  • Firefighting operations
  • First Aid
  • Personal Development
  • Leadership Development
  • Specialist Operational Roles such as Hazardous Material Response

You don’t need to have prior experience to join the brigade.  We will provide you with the skills you need depending on the role you choose.

Our firefighters attend training every Tuesday night to maintain their skills. Additional specialist training is conducted at various times during the day, evenings and weekends.

Sunday mornings are spent checking over the trucks, and general building maintenance. The first Tuesday of each month is the brigade’s general meeting night.

Non-operational Volunteer

The Brigade Support Team (BST) is actively involved in community facing activities representing the brigade and CFA and identifies plans and delivers events, community education and engagement, fundraising, brigade member social events, and operational support during major incidents.

The BST is an active part of the brigade that draws on members skills and conducts activities out within the community as well as within the Brigade. Members are a vital component to the family orientation of the brigade, provide a conduit for family members to be informed, and are involved in the brigade and community.

As a BST member you will able to assist with:

  • Community engagement programs
  • Brigade functions
  • Fundraising activities
  • Brigade equipment maintenance
  • Brigade administration

The BST meets once a month on the second Wednesday of the month and plans for upcoming events and activities.  The first Tuesday of each month is the brigade’s general meeting night.

Junior CFA Volunteers

Would you like to have fun and learn about fire fighting in Mount Eliza?

Run by CFA volunteers, Junior Brigades provide a range of safe, enjoyable and challenging activities for young people and an opportunity to be a part of the local community.

Cost: There is no cost to join and most activities are free.  Some Brigades may organise optional fee-paying activities or excursions.

Uniform: All junior members will receive their own polo shirt, hat and set of overalls.

Age: Open to young people aged between 11 – 15 years

Activities: Team building, practical skills, fundraising, first aid, community service, sporting and social activities and excursions.

Junior volunteers also participate in regular brigade activities such as presentation nights, brigade meetings and also have the opportunity to compete in junior firefighting championships.

When and Where: Mt Eliza Fire Brigade, Canadian Bay Road – every Monday night 7pm – 8pm (excluding public holidays and school holidays)
